The Blooming Brilliance of Chie Cruz
Hailing from the vibrant streets of Navotas, Manila, Rosario Cruz, affectionately known as Chie, embarked on her artistic journey under the tutelage of her illustrious mother, Lydia Velasco. Her passion for painting blossomed after completing her Fine Arts studies in 1991, propelling her towards a deeper exploration of creativity and expression.
Fuelled by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Chie pursued a master’s degree at the esteemed UP College of Fine Arts in 1999, honing her skills and refining her artistic vision. Rooted in her profound appreciation for the simple yet profound beauty of everyday life, she draws inspiration from the intricate tapestry of creation that surrounds her.
Chie’s artistic endeavors are not confined to the canvas; they transcend into a fervent advocacy for women’s empowerment and celebration of nature’s splendor. Actively engaging in women-led shows and exhibits, she channels her admiration for flowers into vibrant expressions of femininity and resilience. Noteworthy among her contributions are the “A Part to Play: National Women’s Month exhibit” at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, the enchanting “Floral Splendor II” at Gallery Francesca in Alabang, and the captivating “In Full Bloom” at Gallery Amalia.
Currently, Chie is deeply entrenched in the artistic community, affiliating herself with esteemed groups such as Floral Artists Manila, Kasibulan, and the Art Wednesday Group. Through these associations, she continues to evolve as an artist, enriching her practice with diverse perspectives and collaborative endeavors.
