Salvador Ching

Painter, Installation Artist and Performance Artist

Salvador “Buddy” Ching is a full-time painter, installation artist, and performance artist. The moments that Ching witnesses in his community inspire the paintings that he creates. He paints people and nature by incorporating earthy tones into mixed media and art installations using local materials.

Ching majored in painting and earned a BFA degree from the University of Santo Tomas. After being selected as one of the Five Philippine Representatives to the Third ASEAN Youth Painting Workshop & Exhibition in Indonesia, he continued on to participate in the Asian Biennale Art Exhibition in Havana, Cuba; Bangladesh; Seoul, South Korea; Singapore, Malaysia; Vietnam; Taiwan, New York, United States. Many of the country’s most prestigious art competitions have honored him with awards and citations. Some of his solo exhibitions have been displayed at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Dela Salle Art Gallery, The Bulacan Museum, Cubao Expo, and Serendra Bonifacio Global City, among others. He has had 16 solo exhibitions to date.

He is the co-founder of Bahaghari ng Malolos, former Vice President of the Art Association of the Philippines, former Vice President of the Lakan Sining ng Bulacan, and a member of The Saturday Group of Artists and the Association of Pinoy Print Makers. Currently, Ching is an Executive Committee Member for the Committee on Visual Arts of the NCCA from 2020 to 2022.In his paintings, Ching often depicts settings from around his home and neighborhood. When he paints scenes depicting people and the natural world, he favors the use of local materials and earthy tones. Ching has two goals in mind for those who view his artwork: first, he wants them to engage with it, and second, he wants them to understand the inspiration behind it. Acrylic and printmaking are the two mediums that he enjoys working with the most.
