Las Islas de Filipinas
In the Philippines, Museums and Galleries Month is observed every October of the year. This celebration honors local art institutions that promote Filipino culture and heritage and puts into the spotlight artworks from our local painters that arouse national consciousness. Museums and Galleries Month emphasizes that Filipino artists and the type of art they produce are intrinsically linked to building national identity and promoting patriotism in the country.
What better way to celebrate Museums and Galleries Month than visiting an art exhibit that features the majestic beauty of the cities and towns that can only be found in the Philippines? Imahica Art Gallery in collaboration with Renalli Trajano, proudly presents Las Islas de Filipinas, a collection of abstract expressionism paintings inspired by the feeling of absolute awe of how wonderful different parts of the Philippines are, especially when given the opportunity to explore its various islands.
In this art exhibit, the artist’s paintings have a recurring theme: the feeling of experiencing how life is lived in different places all over the country. Paintings featured in this collection explore reflections of life, be it in the city or its countryside: from feeling melancholic about how quickly time seems to pass in the metro, to taking a break and diving into the clear blue waters in Palawan, and a euphoric feeling of getting to witness some of the most vibrant sunsets, expect each of the pieces to narrate a particular story, which will surely awaken your appreciation not only for the country but also for the life that you live.
Las Islas de Filipinas is Renalli’s 2nd Solo Art Exhibit, which will feature some of the paintings she was able to pour her heart into for the past few months. One of her works, titled Opportunities, a 4×4 ft acrylic on canvas inspired by the rock formations in Palawan, where the artist recalled taking time off from the city and using it as an opportunity to reflect on the lessons learned from the past years. In addition, her painting Time, a 2×2 ft acrylic painting, is also put into the spotlight, highlighting the vibrant sunset as seen from Manila Bay. According to Renalli, this painting was inspired by feeling the fleeting time in the city and how one should pause to take in every moment, no matter how busy their life in the metro may get. Moreover – her favorite piece – Sweet Escape, is a 2×2 ft in diameter acrylic painting on a round canvas that features the province of Siquijor. In this piece, the artist recalls being astounded by how clear the waters were in Siquijor – even in the port area– which is something that she had never witnessed before.
