Imahica Art presents “Palabas” – An Artistic Exploration of Truths and Realities

Palabas Exhibit

Imahica Art Gallery is set to capture audiences with “Palabas,” a group exhibition running from October 12-27, 2024. This thought-provoking event will highlight how mainstream mass media actively participates in shaping public consciousness. These unique Filipino Artists provide societal reflection of present distortions through the scrutiny of this performative spectacle.

Perform(er/ance/ative)

Palabas challenges us to critically engage with the media landscape, shedding light on the pervasive surveillance that surrounds us, from the streets to the screens in our pockets. This exhibition promises to illustrate how we have been conditioned to passively accept dominant narratives, reducing us to mere consumers rather than active participants in the democratic process. It explores how the human condition is drawn to such performances of media-produced versions of the truth.

As a spectator, the exhibit is an encounter, of not just a diverse array of artworks, but interrogations of the role of media as the performer. Palabas serves not just as a reflection of our current reality, but as a call to action, encouraging us to reclaim our agency and stipulate critical thinking in the age of mis/dis-information.

“Palabas” Articulates Media-dominated Society

The wide array of artworks critically explore subjects under surveillance, manipulation, and depicts the ongoing desensitization of society. By using the most powerful tool in this digital age, Palabas calls for the urgent need for critical engagement in a landscape rife with consumeristic distraction.

In an age where information is both free and controlled, “Palabas” dives into the complex dynamics of how media shapes our understanding of the world. This exhibition examines the historical and contemporary mechanisms of media regulation and manipulation, highlighting the roles played by governments, corporations, and social platforms in influencing public perception and behavior.
