Es Ist Was Es Ist

10 August 2024 – 25 August 2024
Es Ist Was Es Ist

In a complex world filled with uncertainty, us as imperfect beings have nothing to hold but our craft and each other. “Es Ist Was Es Ist”, a translation of the phrase “It Is What It Is”, does not tether itself to the corporeal. A profession of acceptance and resignation contains a profoundly earnest inquiry into the nature of reality and perception. “Es Ist Was Es Ist” brings together like-minded artists with their own individual journeys in reflection and understanding of the world around us.

The works by these introspective artists underline their own versions of interrogation of “being” itself. From dark hues to the vast array of mediums, we are called forth to look within ourselves and our place in this world. This exhibition is a transformation of the phrase from a statement of passive resignation into an active site of dialogue and discovery. The paintings serve as a mirror and a lens through which we can better understand ourselves and why things are the way they are.

In exploring the pieces, we are galvanized to unfold how these artworks challenge conventional notions and inspire new ways of thinking, to reflect on how the interplay of perception and reality influences our own understanding of the world. These artworks make use of acrylic, oil pastels, and charcoal. “Es Ist Was Es Ist” is not just an exhibition—it is an invitation to engage with art as a means of questioning, exploring, and redefining what we accept as reality.
