Benjie Cabangis
Painter
A highly-respected personality in both the academe and the arts, Benjie Cabangis is an abstractionist whose artworks can be found in both local and international collections located in the CCP, the World Bank, Washington DC, the Philippine Consulate in New York, and the Central Bank of the Philippines, among others.
The academic career of Benjie Cabangis started at the University of the Philippines with a degree in Fine Arts, Major in Painting in 1978. He then continued to be an instructor of the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) at the National Arts Center in Mt. Makiling, a lecturer and resource person for the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Artists’ Workshop, and the SEAMEO Project for Archaeology and Fine Arts before becoming a member of the Technical Committee for Fine Arts and Interior Design for the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). At present, he is now a full-time professor of painting at the UP College of Fine Arts.
As of date, Benjie Cabangis hosted 30 solo exhibitions and participated in several group exhibitions. He also became one of the Philippines’ representatives for various art shows and exhibitions throughout Asia.
