Artist’s Spotlight

Marlon Magbanua

Visual Artist

“The extraordinary interconnectedness of the senses and the interdependent alliances among the arts provide Marlon with both his inspiration and the medium through which he works.”

Marlon Magbanua

Marlon believes that art is more than just the vivification of imagery; rather, it is the materialization of the hypothesis of the spiritual, which has always existed but has been hidden from view. Art is the materialization of the hypothesis of the spiritual, which has always existed but has been hidden from view. It’s possible to conjure up feelings of contentment and happiness simply by thinking about an abstract shape or a vivid color scheme.

Marlon Magbanua of Iloilo City, Philippines, studied Advertising Arts at the Technological University of the Philippines and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. As someone with a musical upbringing, he often employs a painstakingly composed process to translate musical concepts into visual art. Marlon once participated in a residency program in Myanmar and has shown his work in a number of solo and group exhibitions around Metro Manila.

The growing consistency of Magbanua’s body of work firmly places him as one of the most productive artists of his generation. Each subsequent work not only adds to what came before it but also sheds light on his thought process and reveals an aspect of his visual and musical development that had not been seen before. Marlon Magbanua, the artist, is able to function not only as the creator of his works but also as an intellectual and emotional observer of those works. His role is that of an objective observer of his own work, simply due to the fact that he was also responsible for creating them. The claims that have been made about the hidden secrets of light can only be verified by him as being true.
