Starting out as a digital artist and animator, Megs Empinado worked for a number of different international studios at the beginning of his career as an artist. Despite this, he had a great drive to work with his hands and produce tangible art his entire life, which ultimately drove him to choose sculpture as a career. “I’ve spent my entire life in the city, so the only natural pond environments I’ve seen are tiny creeks littered with rubble, with trees sparse enough to let in a great patch of sunlight. The dragonfly is represented as a mythical figure who can travel between realms; every pond and creek finds the same flittering dragonfly. In these pocket worlds away from my urban familiar, I’d like to be a wild koi, in a clear stream filled with rubble, branded by the sun, peering through the water at a dragonfly.” ~ Jade Fulgar

Initially, he focused on creating figurative pieces, for which he received recognition and even a few notable awards (including third place at the 2004 Metrobank Art Awards).
