Yllang Montenegro
Yllang Montenegro is a feminist and independent artist from the Philippines and was a migrant worker in Japan. Her experiences as a female migrant worker sparked her involvement in activism to advocate for migrant women’s rights, focusing on empowering survivors of trafficking and domestic violence as well as supporting Japanese-Filipino children. As a self-taught artist, she founded Empowerment Through Art in 2017, a collective that advocates women’s rights and raises funds for grassroots organizations and aspiring artists.
Yllang is currently living and working in Quezon City Philippines, she has been working with different organizations, using her platform to amplify its advocacy through art-making. Yllang has recently returned to university, studying painting at the University of the Philippines – College of Fine Arts.
