Von Ng

Von Ng

Von Ng, born in Manila, Philippines, spent a significant portion of his youth in Los Angeles, California, and Vancouver, Canada. He relocated to the Philippines in the mid-1990s and later moved to Beijing, China, in 2009. There, he resided for 13 years before returning to Manila in early 2023.

His artistic focus revolves around exploring scenes of destruction or finding beauty in the chaos of creation, whether real or imagined. Von often delves into depictions of post-battle aftermaths, post-nuclear landscapes, moments of conflict lulls, and the birth of stars. His paintings frequently incorporate bold colors, with a distinct, sharp horizon line cutting through. A sense of restlessness prevails on these horizons, as if anticipating some imminent event.

In addition to his painting pursuits, Von is deeply involved in martial arts and combat training. He is a professional instructor and remains a lifelong practitioner committed to continuous learning. His martial arts training frequently influences his artwork, which reflects various facets of this disciplined path.

Von’s fascination with the aesthetic of post-apocalyptic imagery has significantly shaped his artistic expression in recent years. The theme of destruction carries the implicit promise of new beginnings, symbolizing a rise from the ashes. This tension and interplay between destruction, order from chaos, and rebirth from wreckage are powerful narratives in his work and art-making process, unfolding on the canvas.
