Thomas Daquioag

Thomas Daqiuoag is a professor at the College of Fine Arts in the University of Santo Tomas, having earned his degree in Commercial Arts and Painting from the same institution in 1994. His solo exhibition, titled “The Invincibles,” was showcased at Pasilyo Victorio Edades in the Cultural Center of the Philippines. With a total of 14 solo exhibitions and participation in over 90 group art exhibitions locally and internationally, Daqiuoag has established himself as a prominent figure in the art scene.

He achieved the Grand Prize in the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP) National Art Competition in 2000 and received the Dharmasiswa Arts and Culture Studies Grant in Bali, Indonesia, in 2002. Daqiuoag was granted the Asian Artist Residency Freeman Fellowship by the Vermont Studio Center, USA, in 2007. In 2013, he won the Grand Prize in the GSIS National Art Competition and participated in the International Performance Art Festival titled “The Art of Encountering” in Austria, Switzerland, and Cologne, Germany. His works have been exhibited in various locations, including New York, Beijing, Singapore, Korea, and Japan. In 2014, he represented the Philippines as the sole delegate in the ASEAN International Art Exhibition “New Icon: Pop in Asia” in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In 2019, after completing his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree at UST, Daqiuoag expanded his exposure to the fundamentals of conservation and restoration, further nurturing his curiosity and innate love for the arts.

In 2021, he founded THOMBAYAN Art Space in Bangkal, Makati, as an alternative artist-run space. The venue serves as a creative platform to showcase the works of emerging and renowned Filipino visual artists, aiming not only to present contemporary works but also to encourage discussions and developments in Philippine Art. The art space encompasses various creative expressions, including photography, printmaking, and new media. Additionally, it functions as a restoration laboratory and a venue for art education, art history, and art resources.
