Riche Yee

Ritche Yee

Ritche Yee is a conceptual artist with a degree of Business Administration, major in Marketing Management at the Urious University in Butuan City. His involvement with the arts started as a high school illustrator and a college cartoonist for several editorial magazines. During his time, he joined and consistently won various competitions held locally in his province, Agusan Del Norte.

His passion for visual arts led him to pursue an art career, attending several art workshops to hone his knowledge and further his skills. He eventually earned an apprenticeship to a renowned visual artist, Hermes Alegre from 2002 to 2003 and acclaimed international artist, Junyee Yee from 2008 to 2012. In 2013, he started pursuing his second degree at the University of the Philippines,Diliman, taking up Bachelor of Fine Arts Major in Painting.

Yee’s artistic inclination is eccentric and rebellious in expression. Fascinated by his subjects, he features the structural damage of concrete and the decayed walls of buildings. However, he is not only after formulating a philosophical and theoretical framework, but also provoking a social reality that simultaneously stimulates an aesthetic and authentic experience.

Aside from his expression, the tedious process of his artworks is just as unconventional. The technique behind Yee’s works is the liberation of important compositions, elements, and transformations of color band texturing. For him, the act of painting itself is indicative of gestural forms and languages of his art, loaded with his vital views.

He regularly competes in many prestigious national competitions such as the GSIS Art Competition, the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP) art competition, Metro Bank Art Association for Excellent Award, the Philippines Art Awards, and the Bangko Sentral Art Design for Excellence. He consistently emerges as one of the winners of the said competitions.
