Melanie Frias
Melanie Frias’ lifelong dream was to pursue a Fine Arts degree, but life had a different path for her due to personal and financial challenges. A decade worth of pouring her heart and energy into her career in early childhood education did not waver her passion for art. She extensively participated in art competitions which also helped her sustain herself — whether through coaching students or taking on college art projects.
In 2019, after establishing herself as an educator and aspiring artist, Frias made the bold decision of leaving teaching and pursuing what she had been longing for, art. Self-taught contemporary artist Melanie Frias has explored various fields — graphic design, digital layout, 3D animation — before rekindling her love for traditional mediums. Frias honed her craft further, finding her hand in mixed media by 2020. She experimented with crystals, acrylic paint, gel pens, gold leaves, and resin, creating pieces that merged innovative textures and skillful techniques. Her favorite and more cherished subject became the ballerina, striving to capture the grace through her (often black and white) art.
Currently, Frias believes that art isn’t just about creating something beautiful, but about constantly challenging yourself and exploring. Frias remains optimistic in her artistic journey and where it will take her and she continues to refine her skills and create more unique works that reflect her creative vision.
