Marlon Magbanua
In Marlon Magbanua’s works what is essential might be visible to the eye but it does not escape his ear. The sound is then amplified tempered in his mind and ultimately finds from in swaths of color.
The Iloilo born, Pasig City based artist gave up advertising work to paint full time, and for much of his career had been obsesses with the visual aspects of sound and the texture of emotions. Every emotion has a corresponding color, just as emotions carry a corresponding texture, rough, murky lights thin or heavy. Although the concept be obsesses with follows a carebral thread, the process of art making is pretty such instinctive.
Magbanua hears the sounds, feels the emotions, and commits them with color, textures and form. And the viewer, suitably engaged by the paintings is compelled to summon emotions from his or her distinct experience that is in turn summon the scents and sounds.
Explores the question of where one originates from and how it defines man’s propensity to coexist and connect with those around him on a level beyond the physical. Inspired by the notion that everything can be traced to one source which binds all living beings, Magbanua conceptualizes existence as a circular shape that perpetually moves and brings people together.
