She completed her undergraduate studies in painting at the University of the Philippines’ College of Fine Arts in Diliman, Quezon City. Her artistic journey has been marked by participation in numerous exhibitions, both locally and internationally, since 1998.
Joy specializes in freelance and commissioned paintings, with a particular focus on resin art. She has been employing resin as a painting medium since 1998, captivated by its captivating qualities such as fluidity, transparency, and the ability to retain vibrant colors even when dry. These characteristics mirror the essence and force of water, evident in the dynamic vibrancy of her artwork. Joy expresses, “I aim to convey to my audience the sensation of emotional release through the interplay of contrasting colors, shapes, and forms. Utilizing resin as a medium has not only allowed me to shed my doubts and anxieties but also to project my hopes and happiness onto the chosen canvas. The flowing nature of the medium grants my imagination the freedom to translate the three-dimensional energy of my thoughts onto a two-dimensional canvas. The mental and physical process of creating art is profoundly liberating for me, with an inherent sense of healing and satisfaction. My art serves as a form of therapy, and the canvas becomes the conduit through which I share and release not just my doubts and anxieties but also my aspirations and joy. I invite viewers to partake in and experience this emotional release through my deliberate selection of contrasting colors, shapes, and forms.
