Ed Uygongco

Ed Uygongco, a talented Filipino artist of Chinese descent, emerged onto the art scene at the age of eighty-seven with his first solo exhibition. Now, at ninety-three, he has accomplished three successful solo exhibits and eagerly prepares for his fourth.

After studying Architectural Rendering at the Mapua Institute of Technology, Uygongco redirected his career path from the business world to embrace his artistic calling during retirement. His artistic journey was influenced by his upbringing in Iloilo, where his mother’s magazine and comics stand provided him with ample visual inspiration.

Although self-taught, Uygongco’s expertise lies in Architectural Draftsmanship, which shines through in his artwork. His creations depict structures and expansive spaces, often rendered in watercolor and pen-and-ink. With a penchant for Asian landscapes and charming cottages, he skillfully captures the essence of these subjects.

Uygongco’s passion for exploration remains unabated as he seeks aesthetic inspiration through sea-voyage cruises. These encounters invigorate his unique gift of architectural draftsmanship.

With a captivating portfolio featuring subjects imbued with resolute structure and vastness, Uygongco’s artistic vision encompasses breathtaking beach scenes, quaint Asian villages, and timeless European castles. His works have garnered recognition, earning him invitations to prestigious events such as Kulay sa Tubig and showcases like Fabriano in Aquarello Italy, IWS biennale exhibits across several countries, and the IWS-Philippines Watercolor Convention and Exhibit.
