Ed Arcilla
Edgar Valentino B. Arcilla is an avant-garde pioneer who embarked on a unique artistic journey. After graduating from the University of the East School of Music and Arts, where he majored in Advertising Arts, he spent fourteen transformative years as a folk singer at Hyatt Regency Hotels across Hong Kong, Singapore, and Sydney in the early 70s.
Following his adventures, Ed delved into diverse ventures. He co-founded a trading outfit in Hong Kong, enabling extensive travel across Asia and the U.S. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to spend three years crafting video game machines and operating fun machine parlors in Hong Kong. This path led him to a breakthrough, introducing Fiber Optics Light Art to the Philippines, revolutionizing the local artistic landscape.
Over nearly three decades, Ed’s passion shifted towards the visual arts, specializing in designing and fabricating advertising light signage systems. Known for his iconic TREKLITE brand of fiber optic lighting, he became a renowned figure in the advertising industry, earning the moniker “Mr. TREKLITE.” He played pivotal roles in the Philippine Advertising Congresses and held leadership positions in industry associations.
Beyond advertising, Ed found success as a photographer, clinching the top Grand Prize in the Canon Asia Pacific Photo Contest, impressing peers and judges alike. His creative prowess earned him respect, leading to the affectionate title “Chairman” from his advertising peers. As a former president of Zone V Camera Club, he made his mark in the photography community.
Recognized for his contributions, Ed received accolades from the University of the East, including being named among the top 60 alumni and the Most Outstanding Alumni in the Field of Fine Arts. His journey continues as he pursues Graduate studies in Visual Arts at the University of the Philippines, redefining himself as a light artist. With his innovative spirit intact, Ed remains active in various artistic associations and foundations, leaving an indelible mark on the artistic world.
