Dante Palmes

Dante Palmes

A multi-disciplinary abstract artist with an expertise in various media from paintings to wooden and metal sculptures, Dante Palmes earned his Fine Arts degree, major in Advertising from the Philippine Women’s University before taking his Master of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines. As recent as 2019, he received the national certification for Shielded Metal Arc Welding conducted by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

For eleven years, he has previously worked as graphic specialist that provides technical advice for graphic art design and presentation to Health Education staff and other departmental staff. Since 1997, he also analyzed and solved complex graphic art design problems in relation to effective illustrative and photography materials for Saudi Aramco Medical Services Organization (SAMSO).

As an abstract artist, Palmes’ art exemplifies his inherent abstract characteristics showcasing an interplay of shapes, sizes, colors, and rhythms express his ideas and feelings. He shares his perception of the mystery of both life and nature; and the indefinite yet beautiful side of life truly manifested in his artworks. According to him, there is no one-sided explanation to it. Everyone will have an opinion on it but the only thing that really matters is what it really means to him. Furthermore, his keen attention to details to the natural world invigorates his artwork with a profound experience for the viewer.

His art style that recognizes nature as its own art form involves the defiance of consistency in color, shape, and texture – manifested through his thick palette knife strokes or Impasto that represent the portrayal of life and nature on canvas. The vague and spontaneous nature of his artworks show how every stroke, color, and shade is perfect just as where they are, therefore is a peek to how nature can make one feel.

Throughout his career, Palmes held nine major solo art exhibits and participated in group exhibits in the local and international art scenes. He also competed and won several major art competitions. He was recognized as Honorable Mention at the 2019 GSIS National Art Competition under sculpture category, an Awardee of the 1989 USSR Ambassador Oleg Sokolov in Pasay City, and was chosen as one of the sixteen Dhahran Art Group (DAG) artists who created a mural painting presented to his royal highness King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, King of Saudi Arabia on its 75th Anniversary of Saudi Aramco Company in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
