Carmela Geisert
Carmela Geisert, a self-taught artist, fearlessly entered the realm of the arts, demonstrating that her passion for creative expression transcends the absence of formal training in painting. Despite her primary profession as a hotelier, Carmela, driven by a love for travel, photography, and fashion, has always excelled in her pursuits.
Graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Airline Secretarial Administration from PATTS College of Aeronautics in 1995, she was recognized as one of the PATTS Outstanding Alumni Awardees in 2017. Carmela, a former Mutya ng Taguig (2nd Runner up in 1997), received the Manila’s Best Dressed Awards in 2005. In February 2020, her alma mater, Colegio de Santa Ana in Taguig, acknowledged her as an Outstanding Alumni for excellence in entrepreneurship and fine arts.
Carmela has been featured as a fashion muse for Designer Ole Morabe, the past president of the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines (PDAF). She is also part of the coffee table book “Obra Maestra: A Homage to Philippine Fashion, Heritage & History” by Zardo A. Austria.
Her artistic journey began in 2016, using charcoal and pastel crayons during long flights. Her bold lines and vibrant colors reflected a modernist style as she initially explored portraiture under the influence of Picasso. She draws inspiration from artists like Jackson Pollock, Paul Gauguin, and Frida Kahlo. She incorporates her trips to Europe, Japan, and Korea into her fascination with flowers, cherishing the beauty of cherry and almond blossoms through photographs and Sakura paintings in particular.
In 2017, Carmela embraced paint pouring, a form of abstract art involving mixing acrylic paints to create visually organic motifs. As the president of Asia Grand View Hotel in Coron, Palawan, she seamlessly integrates her background in the tourism industry with her love for painting. Additionally, Carmela is actively engaged in philanthropic initiatives for the community and has recently become a member of the Rotary Club Makati Ayala Triangle.
