Anthony Paul Gustilo

Anthony Paul Gustilo

Describing Paul Anthony Gustilo as an artist is an understatement; he embodies the artist’s lifestyle, dressing the part and dedicating most of his waking hours to wielding a brush, oil paint, and canvas. Much like Van Gogh, he brings scenes born from his vivid imagination to life. As a self-made artist, Gustilo commenced his career by interpreting the works of the Dutch master, particularly gaining acclaim for his renditions of Sunflowers, Irises, various scenes in Arles, and depictions of Van Gogh’s acquaintances and close friends.

In replicating Van Gogh’s masterpieces, Gustilo honed his skills in mixing dark hues, magentas, flaming oranges, bright reds, and vermilions—signature elements of the Dutch artist’s palette. Subsequently, his landscapes became ablaze with red mountains, blue leaves, and yellow and purple waves. Across all his works, vibrant colors and well-defined brush strokes ignited the canvases. Transitioning to a stained glass effect, Gustilo expertly fused semi-abstract and semi-diffused images through the application of color and curved lines.

Gustilo’s name and artwork have earned recognition in three coffee table books published by Manny Duldulao (2007) and Jane Stangle (2004, 2005). In addition to participating in numerous painting exhibits in Manila (including 22 solo and 60 group exhibits) and Cebu, he has extended his artistic endeavors to international locations such as Hong Kong, Shenzhen in China, and Singapore. During these travels, Gustilo showcased his works and painted historical landmarks, contributing to the rich tapestry of his artistic journey.
