Achacruz
Achacruz is a Filipino artist known for his existentialist approach in his artworks. Born on April 14, 1956, he studied Fine Arts Advertising at Far Eastern University in the mid-70s. He has been actively participating in group exhibitions in and around the metro since the 70s.
In the year 2021, Achacruz joined a group exhibition titled ‘In Celebration of Creativity’ at the Altro Mondo in Makati, which paid homage to Junyee. This exhibition was participated by top contemporary artists and young emerging artists, making it a significant milestone in his career.
He had his first solo exhibition at Alliance Francaise Makati in 1996. His second solo exhibition was held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Small Gallery in 2000. He has also participated in two-man exhibits: Achacruz/Dante Perez at Syano Artlink in 2004, and Achacruz/Alan Rivera at Galerie Astra in 2005.
Achacruz’s works are often described as existentialist, but with a lot of spontaneity. He creates images that allow viewers to interpret them, rather than imposing notions. His style is characterized by an emphasis on the emotional and psychological aspects of his subjects.
