A Kiss of Fire
The beauty of collective consciousness is unravelled when strangers come together and through their art pieces they expose a defining touch that binds their souls into sisterhood. Although distinctly their own, the abstract works of Beatrix Syjuco, Yana Ofrasio and Rax Bautista managed to ignite a common spark. Playing with subtle geometry and hazy monochrome of grey, Beatrix Syjuco’s “Roll the Dice” reveals small accents of turquoise and a fiery orange mark that could be cadmium red upon an intimate engagement with the painting. Through a process-centred and intuition lead dynamic, Yana Ofrasio’s “Catharsis” brings forth the few cool colours predominantly swept across the canvas with minimal touches of warm colours and interruption of doodles. And again, a small distinct stroke of orange against the most sombre hue calls attention despite its size. As for Bautista’s “Gathering Storms”, the asymmetrical diptych of two squares filled with greyish earth tones breathes life as the bigger canvas carries the bold accent strokes of scarlet. The body of our mother earth may be fertile in its shades of ash and soil, but beneath it flows the fire of life like blood underneath our skin. That very nature concealed most of the time is revealed through the kisses of fire in the sisterhood of these three abstract works.
