Forgotten Ways:
A Remembrance of Our Colorful Past
In a departure from his usual subjects, Christian Regis takes us on a journey through our colorful past in each and every brush stroke in his latest collection.
Regis has successfully navigated the transition from the tangible to the intangible facets of being Filipino. His most recent works feature a reimagination of Filipino culture and folklore – to an era of unflinching devotion of the Filipino in “Ala Sais Na” to the unending helpfulness of the Filipino in “Bayanihan.” The seemingly unremarkable ‘Kubyertos’ serves as a reminder of unexpected visitors who emerge from falling utensils, as well as reminding us of the slowly fading ornaments that once adorned every Filipino dining room. You probably have some of the best memories of your childhood from when you would go out for those late-night strolls and you hear yourself saying “Tabi Tabi Po”. The tapestry of “Forgotten Ways” is woven with these folk beliefs, many of which are mystical in nature.
This will also be the first time Christian Regis’ metal sculptures will be displayed to the general public. Sculptural interpretations of Manila’s street legends, such as the “Magtataho” and “Magpuputo,” are interwoven in the exhibition’s background.
After numerous successful solo exhibitions in key cities in Metro Manila and the United States, he continues to have his works presented in a wide range of Manila-based group exhibitions. Regis has developed a particular technique that is vastly distinct from the rapid swaths that are typical of traditional Mabini art over the course of his career.
“Forgotten Ways” will run from October 22 to November 5, 2022 at the Imahica Art Gallery, 2A Lee Gardens, Lee Street, Wack-Wack, Mandaluyong City. Please call 0917 894 5646 / +632 7622 4008 or email thegallery@Imahica.art for more details.
