Artist’s Spotlight

Jun Rocha

Jun Rocha’s art is rooted in tradition but continues to evolve in form and focus. Known for his depictions of rural life and working communities, he draws from Philippine culture, plein-air techniques, and modernist influences to explore themes of labor, memory, and shared identity.

Jun Rocha: From Rural Scenes to Abstract Terrain

Many of his earlier works feature stylized figures in dynamic arrangements, often celebrating communal strength and everyday movement. In contrast, his recent piece “Mystical Scape”, featured at Imahica Art, enters a more abstract space. Here, color and texture take the lead, offering a sense of mood rather than a direct narrative.

This shift toward abstraction reveals a deepening of his practice. Rocha explores how heritage can be expressed through atmosphere, rhythm, and simplified form. Whether figurative or abstract, his work maintains a strong connection to the lives and stories that continue to shape Filipino experience.
