Artist’s Spotlight
Cesare A.X. Syjuco
Cesare A.X. Syjuco is a seminal voice in contemporary Philippine art, known for pioneering a practice that fuses text, image, and critical inquiry. Since the mid 1970s, his signature “Literary Hybrids®” have transformed language into sculptural and visual forms, reimagining how meaning is constructed and perceived.

With more than 50 solo exhibitions since 1976 and participation in group shows across 23 countries, Syjuco’s conceptual rigor remains evident in works like A to Z from The Chameleon (1983/2013) and Perfectio(n) (2009–2011). These pieces reflect a decades long investigation into the poetics of form where language and visual art converge.
As an artist, poet, and critic, Syjuco has also shaped the dialogue around experimental art in the Philippines. Tracing his evolving practice, is an ongoing exploration of what art can communicate, question, and become.
