Glenn Michael Sy Martinez
Storyteller and Assemblage Artist
Glenn Martinez is a storyteller and assemblage artist, also known for his cultural and travel blog, Traveler on Foot. With a fervent commitment to promoting local heritage and cultural travel, Martinez has gathered artifacts reflecting nostalgia and diverse cultural facets from his journeys over the past decade. Through the inventive combination of unrelated ready-made objects, he transforms these materials into the body of his art known as the assemblage.
Renowned art curator Ricky Francisco characterizes Martinez’s assemblage pieces as well-composed, offering room for various interpretations. They exhibit tasteful complexity without becoming overwhelming or excessively intricate. Martinez delved into assemblage art as a form of creative expression in 2019, subsequently participating in group shows organized by entities like the San Mateo Artist Guild, Fundacion Sanso, Altromondo Creative Space, NCCA Gallery, 15square Art Gallery in Imus, Cartelino, and Kowdi.
His assemblage works are proudly included in the art collections of notable individuals and institutions, such as Metro Iloilo Modern Art Park, Casa San Pablo, Dr. Ambeth Ocampo, Lisa Periquet, Boots Alcantara, Prof. Jose “Chong” Ardivilla, Sidney Snoeck, Marcel Antonio, Richard Buxani, Plet, and Elmer Borlongan.
