Chie Cruz
Born in Navotas, Manila, Rosario Cruz, more commonly known as Chie, entered the world of painting under the influence of her renowned mother, Lydia Velasco, after completing her Fine Arts studies in 1991. Seeking further education, she pursued a master’s degree at the UP College of Fine Arts in 1999. Chie draws artistic inspiration from what she describes as “the gifts of creation, as seen in everyday life,” emphasizing the beauty found in ordinary things.
Chie actively participates in women-led shows and exhibits because she is enamored with flowers and strongly supports women’s empowerment. Notable events include the “A Part to Play: National Women’s Month exhibit” at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, “Floral Splendor II” at Gallery Francesca in Alabang, and “In Full Bloom” at Gallery Amalia. Currently, she is associated with Floral Artists Manila, Kasibulan, and the Art Wednesday Group.
