Benild “Benvozz” Abigan

Benild “Benvozz” Abigan

Contemporary Artist

Benild Abigan channels his spiritual curiosity into spontaneous, meticulously crafted artworks. His distinctive interpretations explore the depths of our collective subconscious and our ongoing spiritual growth. With a visionary perspective, he seeks wisdom by delving into his own and others’ experiences, revealing the hidden mystical aspirations that lie within us.

Born in the Philippines in 1969 and now residing in Manila, Philippines, after moving to Australia in 1994, Benild considers both himself and his creations to possess universal essence. He coined the term ‘codex imagism’ for a recent series inspired by the symbolism embedded in sacred texts. Fearlessly, he tackled the challenge of visually representing the ancient books’ divine nature.

Benild’s art is immediate yet shrouded in enigmas, encouraging us to explore psychological dimensions that might be unfamiliar but remain captivating. He embraces the varied interpretations his audience derives from his ongoing artistic odyssey.

Growing up amidst a family of creatives, Benild’s surroundings were steeped in artistic inspiration. With a diverse heritage encompassing Spanish, Arab/Jew, Malay, Japanese, and Mongolian roots, this artist with a French/Italian name navigates his own identity with a mix of puzzlement and fascination. Each layer of self-discovery fuels his creative drive, complemented by the influences of kindred spirits such as Turner, Le Corbusier, and Santiago Calatrava, the Spanish architect. Calatrava’s raw and minimalist technique, as well as Le Corbusier’s timeless architectural language, deeply resonate with Benild’s artistic vision.
