Born and raised in the vibrant city of Manila, Delacruz’s artistic journey began at the esteemed University of Santo Tomas, where he immersed himself in the world of Advertising Arts. It was here that his creative prowess first blossomed, earning him widespread recognition and numerous accolades in national student art competitions. In 2006, Delacruz’s exceptional talent was acknowledged with the prestigious Benavides Award for Outstanding Achievement, a testament to his dedication and artistic excellence.

During his college years, Delacruz delved into the intricate techniques of printmaking, mastering the art of etching and woodcut. Fuelled by a passion for experimentation, he continued to refine his skills in printmaking and painting beyond the classroom walls. In 2006, he unveiled a mesmerizing solo exhibition of Intaglio Prints at the esteemed Crucible Gallery, showcasing his command of the medium and his unique artistic vision.

A true artistic polymath, Delacruz’s creative prowess extends across various mediums, from painting to printmaking. He is a prolific artist, whose thought-provoking creations encapsulate a philosophical narrative deeply rooted in social commentary and self-exploration. Delacruz’s ever-evolving muse lies within the vivid imagery of the urban landscape. The bustling metropolis serves as both his inspiration and his canvas, offering a rich tapestry of surreal elements that fuel his creative process. Through his art, he skillfully captures the essence of contemporary existence, effortlessly blurring the lines between the real and the imagined.

Recognized for his exceptional talent and creative contributions, Delacruz has garnered numerous prestigious awards throughout his career. His artwork “Hari ng Kamaynilaan” claimed first prize in the Print Category at the esteemed Art Association of the Philippines Annual in 2004. In 2012, he once again left an indelible mark, being named a finalist in the Painting Category of the same competition. Notably, Delacruz’s exceptional skill in fine prints earned him first place in the PAP Open Fine Prints Competition with his captivating piece, “Bulong Sa Panaginip.”

Delacruz’s artistic prowess extends far beyond his home country. In 2012, he embarked on a transformative journey, attending the renowned Art Students League of New York, where he honed his craft and expanded his artistic horizons. His talent and dedication were acknowledged on an international scale when he became a Philippine Delegate in the 27th Asian International Art Exhibition held in the vibrant city of Bangkok, Thailand.

Throughout his illustrious career, Delacruz has exhibited his awe-inspiring creations in prominent galleries and art spaces around the world. From New York, USA, to Bangkok, Thailand; from Penang to Kuala Kubu Bharu in Malaysia; from Singapore to Abu Dhabi, UAE, and even Taichung City, Taiwan, his art has captivated audiences across borders, transcending cultural boundaries and resonating with art enthusiasts globally.

With a remarkable portfolio that boasts an impressive seventeen solo exhibitions, Delacruz continues to push the boundaries of his artistic expression. His membership in esteemed artistic associations, including the Philippine Association of Printmakers (PAP) and the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP), attests to his dedication to his craft and his continued commitment to artistic growth and collaboration within the creative community.

Delacruz’s passion for sharing his knowledge and artistic insights has led him to the role of a respected lecturer. In 2014, he took on the position of a lecturer at his alma mater, the University of Santo Tomas, where he inspired and nurtured the next generation of aspiring artists, imparting his wisdom and guiding them on their own artistic journeys.

In 2016, Delacruz proudly represented the Philippines as a delegate in the esteemed KKB Art Festival held in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Malaysia. This international platform allowed him to showcase his artistic vision on a global stage, fostering cultural exchange and promoting artistic dialogue.

A turning point in Delacruz’s career came in 2018 when he was honored with the highly prestigious Thirteen Artist Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines. This esteemed recognition further solidified his status as an influential figure in the contemporary art scene, acknowledging his remarkable contributions and innovative artistic approach.

Delacruz’s latest artistic endeavor, the captivating exhibition titled “MAN-YIKA,” took place at the renowned MANILA BANG! art gallery in December 2022. This groundbreaking showcase featured a collection of his most recent works, inviting viewers to delve deeper into the intricacies of his artistic universe and experience the compelling narratives woven within each brushstroke.

Currently residing in Bahaysining, Muntinlupa City, Philippines, Delacruz continues to push the boundaries of his creativity, channeling his vibrant imagination and profound insights into every piece he creates. With a tireless dedication to his craft and an unwavering commitment to artistic exploration, Janos Delacruz remains an iconic figure in the contemporary art world, leaving an indelible mark on the artistic landscape through his evocative and thought-provoking creations.
